When I decided to add the Fandom Stuff category, I thought about only posting crafts and recipes inspired by things I’m a fan of. And then I realized that there’s something else I could share with you – something that might spark your creativity – and that it fits in this category.
So today, this is what I’m going to post: part of the book swag that I own.
For those of you who don’t know what book swag is: it’s merchandise that is related to a book. It could be a notebook with the same cover as the book, a necklace like the one the MC wears or a book mark with a quote from the book on it.
“Wait, Dilyana… Why did you say this could spark our creativity?”
Because I know that a lot of the people who visit my blog are authors and as such they are constantly looking for new ways to promote and things to give to their audience when they host a giveaway. Book swag does both.
It could also inspire those of you who are readers to create your own swag, just like I am creating book-related crafts.
So let’s get going! Today’s swag comes from author Erin Latimer and was sent to me when her novel Frost came out in 2015.
The first one you see (left to right) is a card. Here’s what’s on the back of it:
It starts with a quote (which was used in the promotional campaign for the book, by the way) and then a message from Erin.
The second thing – the one signed “Stay frostie!” – is a sticker and I’m a little bit ashamed to admit that I didn’t realize that at first. I just saw the pretty graphic and went “Ooh, a shiny castle!”.
Yes, I get distracted by shiny things.
The last swag item is again an image of the cover with two ribbons (one saying “Happily Ever After”) and the address of the author’s site – elatimer.com – on the back, which brings us to this little, but important, piece of advice:
➥ If you are creating promotional materials, remember to include not only graphics, title, teasers and release date, but also some author info. You want readers to be able to find you online, after all.
This is it for today. I would’ve loved to have included more and better pictures of the book swag, but it’s been cloudy lately and out of the thirty or so photos I took, these were the best I got; I even had to try and lighten them on GIMP (a free image editing program; click on the link to be taken to where you can download it from).
Anyway, if you don’t know about Frost, you can read the blurb and my review of it here. I’ve also reviewed Book 2 of the Frost Chronicles – Flame, and if you want a sneak peek from Flame, read by the author herself, you can listen to it here.
PS: I’ve recently won a giveaway and the prize was swag from Erin’s newest release The Strange and Deadly Portraits of Bryony Gray. It hasn’t arrived yet, but it looks pretty cool and I was thinking how I couldn’t wait to share it with you. That’s when I realized that Fandom Stuff is the perfect place to show you the few book swag items I possess. For those of you who want to make something like them, but don’t know how or need inspiration, I have a Pinterest board dedicated to that.
Have fun crafting or just browsing through the pretty things!
