Alec & Riley – A Dogs, Bats & Monkeys Series One-Shot

Sometimes brief interactions and a few words are enough to reveal something about a character or raise more questions we’d like to entertain ourselves by musing over. Here’s a one-shot with Alec and Riley from my Dogs, Bats & Monkeys series. Chronologically, it’s set during Book II – Sentiments & Reason, and the stage it takes place on is the Milk & Cream – the café Riley works at.

I hope you’ll enjoy it!

PS: Learn a bit about what the Dogs, Bats & Monkeys series are at the bottom of this post.

Alec’s Story – Book III of the Dogs, Bats & Monkeys Series

Half-shifter, half-vampire, Alec doesn’t really fit in with either species. He likes to use his looks and sex to manipulate people, would start a strife out of boredom, carelessly admits to killing another vampire and doesn’t seem capable of caring for anyone except himself and his cousin Vika.

Adrian – or Ian to his friends Continue reading

I can’t believe I fell for this again!

My stilettos clattered over the wet pavement with each step I took.

Let’s go out tonight, she had said. Amy and Brook might be busy, but we can still have fun.

That damn Stacey!

Not five minutes since we walked into the bar and she was already eye flirting with some guy. Ten minutes in and her hand was on his thigh, fifteen and they were making out.

I snorted.

Watching her tongue dance with some college dude was not what I’d call fun. Continue reading

It started last Friday. My shift was over and I was walking home, wondering if I’d have enough money to pay the bills and my University fees. It was an ordinary evening – no mysterious sounds, no shadows lurking in a corner, no foretelling signs – untill I got chased through a graveyard by two people who I later found out were not human; they were demons. So there I was, running, barely managing to catch my breath, when I saw him. I still do not know why I’ve always said “him”. A week ago he was just one of the cemetery statues; I should’ve used “it” to address him. But he’s always seemed so real to me. And since that fateful Friday, he turned into something truly real and living. Continue reading

“Dad’s gone,” my cousin’s voice was barely above a whisper. “You must come home for the Evaluations,” she uttered and the phone line went dead.

After Keri’s Uncle – the Alpha of the Silver Bullets pack – loses his battle with cancer, the young woman is summoned away from University and back home to take part in the Evaluations – a series of challenges that would help determine who would take on the role of the new leader. Continue reading

Sneak Peek: We are the Answer (and its new cover)

There was something in the air tonight. I felt it as soon as I exited the pub, followed by my brother Everett and two young members of our pack. They seemed unaffected by the strange vibration, the slight electric current that grew stronger as we moved further from the door. I looked around and found the source: a boy – probably still a teen – and human. Continue reading
