Some people seem to think that blogging is quick and easy. That we, bloggers, just sit down, write something random and hit “Publish”. Writing Wednesdays: 10 CC0 Sites Where You Can Legally Get Images for Your Blog Posts for FREE

Writing Wednesdays - 10 CC0 Sites Where You Can Legally Get Images for Your Blog Posts for FREE

CC0… Wait, what?

CC0 is a license that can be applied to images, videos and songs. In short, it means that the creator/copyright owner is allowing you to get that image (or video, or song, etc.) for free. You can then edit it however you want and use it – again, without paying.

The images I use on my blog are CC0 (except for my avatar; it’s custom-made for me and I bought the copyright) and today I’m going to share with you where you can get such images so you can also use them Continue reading

Writing Wednesdays: Sites That Organize Book Tours and Blitzes (Tip for Writers and Bloggers)

Writing Wednesdays Sites That Organize Book Tours and Blitzes (For Writers and Bloggers)

Last week, I listed some sites where authors can upload their ARCs to reach a new audience, expand their email lists and get reviews, and where readers could find free and discounted books; today I’m going to list some sites that can arrange a book tour or blitz for an author and where a blogger can sign up to take part in those. These sites also deal with ARCs. Here they are: Continue reading

Writing Wednesdays: How I Pick Books to Review and Promote

Writing Wednesdays - How I Pick Books to Review and Promote

Since we are on the topic of blogging (check out last week’s Three Short Tips for Book Reviewers): I often get asked how I select what books to promote and review here. Sometimes the people who ask have a blog themselves and want to add new content to it, and sometimes they are just thinking of starting one; sometimes they are not bloggers at all, but are authors who wonder if I would feature them on the blog. If you fall into any of these categories, read on. In this post, I tell authors how to get in touch with me and offer bloggers a few things to think about if they want to include book reviews and promos on their sites.

I consider potential books for reviewing and promoting the same way as Continue reading

Writing Wednesdays: Three Short Tips for Book Reviewers

Writing Wednesdays - Three Short Tips for Book Reviewers

Last month, I told you that I’ll be starting Writing Wednesdays – a series, in which I give writing advice, sometimes in short posts, sometimes in longer ones. The first such tip – How I Wrote a Fight Scene for the First Time, was for book/story writers, but today’s shorties are for bloggers.

Short Tip 1: Continue reading

Authors, if you want bloggers to promote your books… (PART 2: MEDIA KIT)

MEDIA KIT (PART 2 of Authors, if you want bloggers to promote your books...)

Happy holidays, kittens!

Last Monday, I gave you some advice on how to contact a blogger for them to promote your work and what to do after you’ve made that contact. One of the things included sending to their email a pre-made “package” with graphics and information about you and your book. This package is called a media kit and today I’m going to tell you what to include in it. Continue reading

Authors, if you want bloggers to promote your books… (PART 1: HOW TO APPROACH A BLOGGER & WHAT TO DO AFTER A BLOGGER HAS AGREED TO PROMOTE YOUR WORK)

HOW TO APPROACH A BLOGGER & WHAT TO DO AFTER A BLOGGER HAS AGREED TO PROMOTE YOUR WORK (PART 1 of Authors, if you want bloggers to promote your books...)

As you know, I do book promos on my blog. I don’t have a sign-up form for it or anything (perhaps I should make one?), I just tell the authors I like that it’s something I do and that if they have a new release, a cover reveal or a big sale going on, they could drop me a line and I’ll write a post about it. Since I’ve never asked an author to promote me, I can’t give you more than basic advice on how to approach a blogger; however, since I do write promo posts, I can tell you what to do after a blogger has agreed to promote your work, as well as what materials and info you could prepare beforehand and send to bloggers who agree to give your work a shout-out Continue reading
