Q1. Hello, Alyssa, and welcome to my blog! Tell us a little bit about yourself. How and when did you start writing?

I started out writing Fanfiction for Harry Potter which was the first book series I was totally obsessed with.

I think I posted my first Fanfic when I was about twelve. It was terrible. I can’t remember what it was about, but I know it was terrible. And I really wish I still had it! Imagine how fun it would be to re-read it now, over ten years later!

Anyways, reading a lot and writing a lot using other people’s characters made me love storytelling and characterization and after a few years I started a few original stories. Then more and more original, and less and less Fanfiction. Now I mainly write my own original works.

Q2. Who are your favorite authors and do you think they’ve influenced your work?

I’m a big fan of Patricia Briggs who writes the Mercy Thompson series and I definitely think my liking for shapeshifters and werewolves comes a lot from those books. The world of Vampire Academy and the Bloodlines books by Richelle Mead has also been an inspiration for Bound to You. Meg Cabot is someone whose work I really enjoy and would like to call an influencer.

Q3. Speaking of your work: your novel Bound to You has just come out; will you tell us more about it?

Well, the book is about a werewolf girl who wants to find her mate. Only when she does, he’s not at all what she’s expecting. I wanted to write something a little different from a lot of “soulmate” stories. Something that deals with how maybe even “true love” isn’t as easy as one might have hoped and that what makes a relationship work is a about choice and trust just as much as it is destiny.

Q4. Are any of the characters inspired by real people or do you prefer to make them up completely from scratch?

My characters are mostly completely made-up. Some traits might be slightly borrowed from real life people, but I can’t point to for an example Megan and say she’s based on this and that person.

Q5. Who is your favorite character from Bound to You and why?

Lucy is probably my favorite. I really enjoyed writing her, foreshadowing the mysteries about her.

Q6. What are you working on right now and what can we expect from you in the future?

Right now I’m working on an alternate history, and I’m really excited about it. There is reality TV, fancy dresses, a prince and a bit of mystery. I’m also thinking of different ideas /approaches for a possible sequel to Bound to You.

Q7. Who is your biggest supporter and what would you like to say to them?

The Wattpad community were such huge supporters of Bound to You back in its infancy and they really pushed me to keep on writing. So to them I’d really like to say “Thanks” and “This book would not exist without you”.

Q8. If you could give other authors one piece of advice, be it about writing, editing, promoting or increasing their audience, what would it be?

It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be written down! I think a lot of us (me included) get so wrapped up in trying to plot and think we sometimes forget that it’s only once our ideas are actually on paper that we can share them with others.
